The Meridian
Protocol

An elite mentorship for those who can prove — clinically, neurologically, and contractually — that they deserve to be here.

001 — PREAMBLE

A Note on Honesty

I've spent twenty-three years in markets. I've made more money than I'll spend. I've watched approximately four thousand aspiring traders come and go, and I use the word "approximately" because after a certain point I stopped counting and started grieving.

The trading education industry sells hope. I'm not interested in selling anything. I take on three mentees per year, I charge nothing, and in return I ask for something far more expensive than money: proof.

Proof that you are neurologically, psychologically, and temperamentally configured to survive what I'm going to teach you. And a binding commitment that your survival will mean something beyond your own account balance.

If you're already offended, that's useful diagnostic information.
If you're intrigued, that's also diagnostic information — just slightly better diagnostic information.
002 — PREREQUISITES

The Battery

Applicants must submit lab-verified results from the following assessments. I don't care where you get them done. I care that they're real. If you're tempted to fake them, congratulations — you've just failed the integrity screen, which isn't on this list because it doesn't need to be.

NR-001

Heart Rate Variability

24-hour ambulatory HRV monitoring via Holter ECG. Submit full SDNN, RMSSD, and pNN50 values. We're looking at parasympathetic dominance and recovery slope after sympathetic activation events.

You'll wear the monitor during a normal day. We'll know if your normal day is actually normal.

≥ 80th percentile required
NR-002

Cortisol Reactivity Profile

Salivary cortisol at six time points across a Trier Social Stress Test administered by a licensed psychoneuroendocrinologist. We measure peak amplitude, time-to-peak, and — most importantly — recovery half-life.

If you had to Google "psychoneuroendocrinologist," that's fine. If you had to Google "cortisol," we may have a problem.

≥ 80th percentile (fastest 20% recovery)
PS-001

Loss Aversion Index

Behavioral economics assessment using calibrated mixed gamble tasks. We're measuring your personal loss aversion coefficient — the ratio of pain-from-loss to pleasure-from-equivalent-gain. Population mean is approximately 2.25.

If yours is above 1.8, you will donate more to charity than you keep. This is beautiful. It is also disqualifying.

≤ 1.4 coefficient required (≥ 80th percentile tolerance)
PS-002

Trait Conscientiousness & Impulse Control

NEO PI-R administered by a licensed clinical psychologist, supplemented by a Go/No-Go task with EEG monitoring of the N200 and P300 components. We want to see your prefrontal cortex vetoing your impulses in real time.

Your brain literally arguing with itself. We're betting on the boring part winning.

≥ 85th percentile required
PS-003

Ambiguity Tolerance

Ellsberg Paradox battery plus an extended uncertainty-dwelling task where you make 200 decisions with systematically degraded information quality. We measure decision consistency and time-to-decision as certainty evaporates.

Most people start guessing. The ones we want start getting calmer.

≥ 80th percentile required
TM-001

Social Comparison Orientation

Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure, validated against a simulated trading environment where you're shown (fabricated) peer performance alongside your own. We watch what happens to your sizing and frequency.

If you increase position size after seeing someone else's P&L, we shake hands and wish you well.

≤ 20th percentile orientation (lowest 20%)
TM-002

Reward Sensitivity & Dopaminergic Baseline

BIS/BAS scales plus a probabilistic reward task with fMRI monitoring of nucleus accumbens activation. We also accept genetic panel results for DRD4, DRD2, and COMT polymorphisms as supplementary data.

We are, in essence, checking whether the market can get you high. If it can, you will eventually chase that high into ruin. This is not a metaphor. It is pharmacology.

≤ 30th percentile sensitivity required
TM-003

Identity-Outcome Decoupling

Proprietary assessment. You will trade a simulated account for five days. On day three, we will sabotage it — injecting false catastrophic losses. We then measure, via structured clinical interview and physiological monitoring, whether you experience this as something that happened or something you are.

This is the test most people fail. Not because they react — everyone reacts. But because they can't find their way back.

≥ 90th percentile decoupling required
Yes, several of these tests require equipment that costs more than most people's trading accounts. Consider that part of the filter.
003 — THE CONTRACT

The Tithe of Configuration

If you pass The Battery — and in six years, eleven people have — you will be asked to sign a document that has made two lawyers and one ethicist describe me as "creative."

BINDING PHILANTHROPIC COMMITMENT — SUMMARY OF TERMS

Upon completion of the mentorship and achievement of consistent profitability, the Mentee shall donate a percentage of annual net trading income to a diversified portfolio of causes agreed upon jointly by Mentor and Mentee prior to commencement.

The percentage donated shall equal the Mentee's average percentile ranking across all Battery assessments. If your composite score is the 87th percentile, you donate 87% of your trading income. If it's the 92nd percentile, you donate 92%.

The logic is simple: the more perfectly configured you are for this, the less you need the money, and the more the world needs what the money can do. Your gift is not effort. Your gift is architecture. You didn't earn your HRV. You can earn the right to use it for something beyond yourself.

The cause portfolio must span a minimum of four domains: global health, education, environmental restoration, and one domain of the Mentee's choosing. No single cause may receive more than 40% of the allocation. We diversify our giving for the same reason we diversify our trades — because we are not God, and we do not know what will work.

The commitment is binding for a period of ten years or until the Mentee's cumulative donations reach a threshold agreed upon at signing, whichever comes first. After this period, the Mentee is free to donate as conscience dictates. Experience suggests conscience dictates generously.

Breach of this agreement will result in the immediate and permanent revocation of access to the Meridian community. There is no appeals process. We trust your nervous system more than your excuses.

A common question: "Isn't it paradoxical to select for people least motivated by money
and then ask them to give it away?"

No. That's the point. The people who can make the most money in markets are,
by neurological necessity, the people least attached to it.
We are simply formalizing what their wiring already knows.
004 — PHILOSOPHY

Why Any of This

The market is the most efficient mechanism for wealth transfer ever devised. Every year, it moves billions from the pockets of the hopeful into the accounts of the configured. This is not evil. It is not good. It is physics.

I cannot change the physics. But I can choose who I help navigate it, and what they do with the result. I am looking for people whose biology allows them to extract money from a system that destroys most participants — and whose character ensures that extraction means something.

If you are not in the 80th percentile on these measures, I am not rejecting you. I am protecting you. Go find the arena your configuration was built for. You have one. It is not this one.

If you are in the 80th percentile and the idea of giving most of it away makes you hesitate — good. That hesitation is the last test. And it's the only one you grade yourself.

Begin Application
You'll need a cardiologist, a psychoneuroendocrinologist, a clinical psychologist,
access to an fMRI facility, and — most importantly — the willingness to discover
that you might not be who you think you are.

The Meridian Protocol is not a registered financial advisory service. No mentorship guarantees profitability. Past performance of the Mentor is not indicative of future results for the Mentee. The Battery assessments described herein are based on real psychometric and physiological instruments, several of which have been adapted in ways that would make their original authors either proud or uncomfortable. The philanthropic commitment is legally binding in jurisdictions that recognize it, which is most of them, because we checked. If you've read this far, you might be one of us. Or you might just be thorough. The Battery will tell us which.
